The Rev. Doraisamy Kadirawel Balakrishnan was collated and installed as the 6th Archdeacon of Nuwara Eliya by the Bishop of Colombo at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, on Saturday 7th April in the presence of a large gathering of clergy, present and former parishioners, friends and family.
Rt. Revd. Kenneth Fernando, Bishop emeritus of Colombo was the preacher at the service.
Ven. Balakrishnan was ordained to the priesthood in 1998 after having served as a lay worker for ten years. He obtained his Serampore B.Th. degree in 1996 and is currently reading for his Master’s at the Open University of Sri Lanka. He has also obtained the Complementary Certificate in Ecumenical Studies awarded by the Bossey Institute of the World Council of Churches, Geneva, Switzerland. His varied interests in mission are manifest in the post ordination training he has followed in Disaster Risk Reduction Management, Human Rights, Family Counselling etc. He has served in many rural and urban parishes.
Father Balakrishnan’s long association with and intimate knowledge of the plantation sector will be a great asset to him as he takes on this new and heavy responsibility.
The Diocese wishes him God’s grace and guidance and assures him and his family of its prayers and co-operation.
