The Diocesan office Christmas outreach programme was held on December 16th. For the first time the Diocesan staff voluntarily sacrificed their Christmas get to gether to make the lesser privileged children happy this Christmas. They left the Diocese as early as 6 am to reach the Dumbara No: 2 Tamil Vidyalaya in Ingiriya. This school is situated in a deprived area in the Tea plantation with 126 children ranging from Grade 1 to 9. The Diocesan staff organised the programme through its Welfare society with the assistance of Rev Asokarajah – Vicar of Christ Church, Ingiriya, his wife Mrs. Jeevanaayagi and with the Youth fellowship.
The Diocesan staff gave their time and money very generously and made gift packs of School bags with books and stationary items. When they were distributed, the children accepted it with great joy.
There were many interactive games, actions songs, Christmas carols and distribution of gifts. The Diocesan staff interacted with the children and played games with them which brought great joy to them. Rev. S. Balasunderam shared a message of Christmas in an interesting way which captured the children’s attention. The Diocesan staff put a smile on these children’s faces who have not experienced a Christmas programme of this nature before. The staff in turn felt that they contributed to a worthy cause and felt fulfilled.
