he community at St. John the Baptist's Church, Rakwana celebrated the 135th Anniversary on 24th June, 2022 with a service of Holy Confirmation presided by the Rt. Revd Dushantha Rodrigo. This was also Bishop Dushantha's first pastoral visit to the church and the area. 10 persons were confirmed at this service.

The community of Rakwana is a growing community with a vibrant mix of parishioners from both the town areas and the estate communities. This church that was founded in 1887 was the mother church covering the areas now separated into the parishes of Deniyaya, Beverly, Ratnapura and Balangoda. The bishop also visited to the now ruined Church of St. Mary, Navinna, which was destroyed during the '83 communal riots. The bishop made a pastoral visit to the home of Mrs. Crispus, the mother of the late Revd Chandran Crispus and wife Revd D. S. Crispus.

The community gives thanks to God and all those whose faithful service over the years has built this community up. The community was grateful to Bishop for having made this journey even during this difficult time with many transportation challenges.
