As a part of our Exposure Visit we headed towards the churches in the North of Sri Lanka on 14th & 15th January 2022.
Day 01. The 14th of January being Thai Pongal Day, we participated in the Pongal celebrations in Karuna Nilayam (St. Paul’s Church Killinochchi). All were attired in traditional outfits for the celebration. A pongal feast was served as breakfast which was definitely a new experience to most of our youths. Towards the latter part of the day the Exco visited the youths of St. Luke’s Church, Tharmapuram and St. Matthias Church Thanniruthu where we were welcomed with open arms. We along with them, had the opportunity to get to know each other. During our meeting with them we explained the CCYM functions and on their part, they shared some of the challenges they face. The Exco put forward some solutions. The visit was cordial.
Overall the visit to the churches was very benefiting for both ends as we got to know more about them and vice versa. Towards the end of the day dinner was prepared by the boys of the Exco which was a fun session, as they got the opportunity to bond over this activity and the rest of us definitely enjoyed a delicious meal.
Day 02 started with celebrations for Patti Pongal (Pongal celebrated in honor of the cows, goats and all other animals involved in farming) where our youths were involved in cleaning the cow sheds and other activities to help celebrate the occasion. This was also definitely a new experience to the youths and most of them had great fun being a part of it all.
Our visit concluded with the Exco meeting held at Karuna Nilayam.
It was a wrap to a successful exposure visit.
